A man steals old coins, swords from the government museum | Salem News
Dharmapuri: A 27-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for stealing ancient coins, swords and a central processing unit (CPU) from the city’s government museum. Police recovered the stolen items from the accused, who was identified as Vignesh, from Pochampalli in Krishnagiri district.
According to A Saravanan, inspector of Dharmapuri Town Police Station, museum curator Venkatguru Prasanna lodged a complaint with them in the morning stating 30 ancient coins, three swords and a processor worth several lakh rupees were missing in the establishment.
While the museum had been closed to the public for two weeks, he said, employees regularly showed up to work for cleaning. “The theft was revealed on Saturday when they reported to work.”
Police recorded a case and collected CCTV camera footage from nearby shops and streets. “We focused on the accused based on the CCTV footage and arrested him. He was presented to the judicial magistrate, who took him into police custody. We put him up at Salem Central Prison, ”the officer said.
District Police Commissioner Pravesh Kumar, meanwhile, praised the inspector and his team for arresting the accused hours after receiving the complaint.
