A new sports arena with state-of-the-art facilities

Seberang Prai SOUTH District is expected to have a new RM 8.78 million sports arena with a range of facilities in Jalan Bukit Panchor, Nibong Tebal.

At 7,260m² when completed, it will be the largest sports arena in Seberang Prai, Penang.

Construction is underway and is expected to be completed in February 2023.

State Youth and Sports Committee Chairman Soon Lip Chee said the arena would feature nine badminton courts, six of which would have retractable seats for spectators.

These courts can be used for a variety of other sports including netball, volleyball, silat, sepak takraw, table tennis (ping pong), karate, and wushu tournaments.

“There will be a multi-purpose room that can accommodate banquets with 98 eight-seater tables or 72 ten-seater tables.

“The hall is large enough to accommodate up to 1,200 auditorium chairs,” he said after visiting the proposed site in Nibong Tebal on Saturday.

Soon, other facilities would include an office, an observation room, a stage, shops, a laundry room for stage preparations, changing rooms, a prayer room and toilets, including for the disabled, and a car park. “As of Friday, the progress of the work is 3.8% of its completion,” he added.

This development, which is now called Nibong Tebal Arena, is soon expected to spark a wave of sporting activities in southern Seberang Prai.

The multipurpose hall will also be a good place for wedding receptions, meetings, conferences and exhibitions.

Also present at the press conference announcing the construction of the arena were Jawi assembly member Jason H’ng Mooi Lye and Penang Sports Council director Harry Chai Heng Hua.
