“The anniversary celebrations will begin with the launch of the First Day Cover to mark the 150th inauguration of the CMCC on March 19. This will be followed by a cricket match between the CMCC and the Chairman’s XI of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board. The highlight of the celebrations will be a commemorative charity dinner on March 26, where the keynote speaker will be Sri Lankan cricket legend and former MCC President Kumar Sangakkara, ”CMCC President Rizwan Badoordeen told a conference. press held at the ‘Padang’.

“We have also held several tournaments throughout the year, such as an invitational 6-a-side cricket tournament, a hockey and netball carnival, sepak takraw and an open-invitation badminton tournament and a rugby competition. “, he added.

CMCC club captain Rinaldin Rahaman, speaking on the occasion, said the main purpose of holding a charity cricket dinner is to raise funds to purchase cricket equipment for junior school teams. and seniors.

“We have identified two rural schools in the country. As the island’s premier cricket club, we want to give back to the cricket community, ”he said.

To create more interest and camaraderie, the CMCC will be hosting an invitational 6-a-side cricket tournament in May.

“This is basically a fraternity event where we’re going to invite around 10 ‘A’ level teams. As CMCC celebrates 150 years, we want to foster goodwill and camaraderie among top clubs like SSC, NCC, Bloomfield and CCC. Domestic players may join this tournament and even our former captains and test players can represent their clubs, ”said Rahaman.

A badminton tournament will take place in June and will take place at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium. It will be an event open to men and women to participate in different age categories with attractive prices offered.

The CMCC will organize a “walk” in July. All participants will depart from the Padang premises where a carnival-like atmosphere with paparian music, decorated vehicles and funny figures will be part of the procession. Once the procession reaches the grounds of Padang, a Tag Rugby tournament will be organized among the Malaysian associations. The Netball Carnival in July will be a unique competition.

“The game will be controlled by the head referee’s whistle as matches are played simultaneously on different courts. In fact, this event was only held in Singapore and we held a similar competition two years ago, ”said Rahaman.

This will be followed by an Open Sepak Takraw tournament in August.

“As you may know, Sepak Takraw is of Malaysian descent. The CMCC is the pioneer of sport in Sri Lanka which requires skills in football and gymnastics. It is even now popular in Services where it has been integrated as a fitness program, ”added Rahaman.

The Hockey Carnival will be a seven-party invitational tournament featuring eight school teams and eight clubs. Hockey also has a rich history with CMCC being the oldest club affiliated with the Colombo Hockey Association.
