Conclusion of Sepak Takraw: The Tribune India

Jalandhar: 31st National Senior Sepak Takraw Championship 2021, commonly referred to as “Kick-Volleyball”, peaked at the level of Shanti Devi Mittal Indoor Stadium international competitions at Lovely Professional University (LPU). Almost 600 athletes, women and men, from all Indian states, UTs and forces participated. During the various matches played over six days, all the women’s teams of Sashastra Seema Bal; Manipur; and, the state of Bihar were crowned respectively for their glorious victories in the team event; Regular event; and, Double Event of the tournament. The men’s SSB team won the championship trophy by beating the Delhi team in the team event of the match. The Delhi team remained in second place. Also in the Regu event, the men’s SSB team beat Delhi 2/0. The Manipur men’s team took third place after beating Nagaland. In the men’s doubles event, the Bihar team was no less than their women’s team and beat the Haryana men by 2/1.

Inter-school kathak dance competition

An aspiring dancer from Mayor World School Drisha Jain from class VIII -D participated in the Jalandhar Sahodaya Kathak inter-school dance competition at DRV DAV Centenary public school. She won first prize in the Grades VI-VIII category and brought laurels to the school. Her graceful dance moves were more complex and influenced by musicality and lyrical relevance to expressing emotions. By punctuating the rhythms of the music and showing a clear repertoire of dance steps, she left the audience spellbound. Many schools participated in the event. The attendees were full of zeal and enthusiasm and were thrilled to be a part of this colorful, vibrant and energizing event.

Creative writing competition

A creative writing competition was held at PCM SD College for Women by Hindi Sahitya Dhara. Students from various fields participated in the event. The subject of the competition was given on the spot. The event was organized for the students to develop their intrinsic and creative talents. They performed to the best of their ability through poetry and prose. Members of the Management Committee and Principal Dr Pooja Prashar congratulated the students for their eager participation. They also applauded the efforts of Sunita Sharma and Neena Mittal in organizing such activities which serve as an outlet for the students’ hidden ingenuity.

Industrial visit

Civil engineering students from Mehr Chand Polytechnic College, Jalandhar, were taken on an industrial tour to Phagwara to brief them on the operation of an automatic hot-mix asphalt plant and the materials used there. The visit was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering in association with M / s RK Aggarwal & Co. Phagwara to educate students on the operation of the hot mix asphalt plant and the laying of carpets on flexible pavements. The students saw various operations and controls of the automatic hot mix asphalt plant and became familiar with the materials. The students were accompanied by Kanav Mahajan and Amit Khanna, professors in the Department of Civil Engineering.

Exhibition at Apeejay College

On the occasion of Guru Nanak Dev’s 552nd birthday, Apeejay College of Fine Arts participated in an exhibition held at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. In the exhibit, Dr Gagan Gambhir, Dr Simkee Dev, Dr Harman Deep, Sandeep Singh, Dr Raman Dadra and Anuradha acted as representatives of the college. They exhibited works of art related to the culture and heritage of Punjab. Various paintings depicting the Punjab and ancient utensils used in the ancient times of the Punjab were on display. With it, other simple objects like Phulkari, Punjabi Jutti, Pakhiyan, Daria, brass utensils, etc. were also exposed.

BA Journalism Toppers

Sanket Goyal of Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar took 2nd place in BA Journalism & Mass Communication Semester-II university exams scoring 405 out of 450 points while Ekta Pandey, Pallvi and Rajveer Kaur took 4th, 6th and 9th positions by obtaining 397, 386, 377 marks respectively in the same class. This information was given in a press release by College Principal Dr Gurpinder Singh Samra. Dr Samra added that the college’s policy is to provide all kinds of support to deserving college students who excel in varsity sports and other extracurricular activities. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Balbir Kaur College congratulated the students and wished them success in life.

AWS Cloud Certification

Student in B.Tech, Computer Science and Engineering; Raahat Varma from GNA University achieved her third AWS Cloud certification on Sysops Administrator Associate. Raahat started her cloud journey last year in 2020 and discovered Amazon Web Services (AWS) at GNA University. Cloud mainly offers three roles, Cloud Engineer, Cloud Developer, Cloud Architect and all other roles revolve around these areas. Raahat initially achieved his AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification in two weeks in August 2020. He earned his second AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate certification, which took him a month to prepare. He also obtained the Aviatrix Certified Engineer – Multicloud Network Associate certification offered by Aviatrix.

Annual sports meeting

Jalandhar: The St Soldier College of Education hosted the 17th sports meet at which Dr Shweta Shenoy, Head of the Department of Science and Medicine at Guru Nanak Dev University, was present as the main guest. The president of the St. Soldier group Anil Chopra, the vice-president Sangeeta Chopra, the president of the School of the Sacred Heart Sunil Chopra were especially present. They were greeted by the Doctor of Medicine, Professor Manhar Arora, the Director of the College, Dr Alka Gupta. Different types of games were organized during the meeting. TNS
