Improved tennis courts ready for players
TENNIS enthusiasts and the community living near the Sony Sports and Recreation Complex in Seberang Jaya, Penang can look forward to matches on two upgraded tennis courts.
State Youth and Sports Committee Chairman Soon Lip Chee said the upgrade was completed on September 23, three weeks ahead of the scheduled October 17 completion date.
“The project cost RM100,000 and the work included repairs and paving of the land surface,” he said in a statement.
The tender for the project was published on April 16 of this year and the upgrade began on August 23.
Earlier, Soon visited the courts with tennis enthusiast Adam Ong, who said the courts are privately run.
“Payment or registration as a club member must be made before being allowed to use the tennis courts,” Ong said.
Soon said that the state government values Penang sports facilities and will always investigate issues related to these facilities with the Penang Stadium and Open Area Corporation (PSDKLPP).
Also in attendance were PSDKLPP Executive Director Mohamed Akbar Mustapha, Penang State Sports Council Director Harry Chai and Penang Lawn Tennis Association President Hang Kok Long.
The Sony Sports Complex also has volleyball, netball, sepak takraw, basketball and soccer fields.
