Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde urged members of the National Assembly and the state to join the call for state police, regardless of their political affiliation.
Makinde, who indicted this weekend, said the introduction of state policing would help dispel insecurity in states and across the country.
A statement by the governor’s chief press secretary Taiwo Adisa quoted Makinde as saying that concerted efforts are needed to address the challenges of insecurity plaguing the country.
Makinde said this during remarks at the 30th Anniversary of Ibadan Golf Club held on Saturday at the World Lilies Event Center, Queens School Road, Apata, Ibadan.
In addition, he urged those who politicize insecurity to rethink, saying insecurity knows neither political parties nor religions.
He therefore instructed the legislative arm of the government at the federal and state levels to put pressure on him in their chambers.
The governor, who congratulated the members of the Ibadan Golf Club on the 30th anniversary, pledged that he would continue to support the club and also do more to provide the necessary support for the development of the sport in Oyo State.
He said the renovated and rebuilt Lekan Salami Sports Complex will be opened with the Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) playing a European team from Slovakia.
In another development, a group in Oke-Ogun, Oyo state, Ebedi Frontliners, Iseyin (EFI), flayed vice president Professor Yemi Osinbajo for his broken promise to rebuild the Iseyin Road. -Oyo during the 2019 election campaign in the state.
The group said it was sad that the federal government, which owned the road, had long abandoned it among other federal facilities in the Oke-Ogun area.
However, he congratulated Makinde for approving the reconstruction of the same long-abandoned Iseyin-Oyo road.
The group praised it after an emergency meeting held at Aseyin Palace in Iseyin over the weekend.
“Our people in Iseyin never forget a good ride. We are grateful to Governor Seyi Makinde and we will surely pay him back in due time.
“We remember that the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, was here during the 2019 election campaign and it is recorded that he promised that the federal government would immediately start the reconstruction of the Iseyin-Oyo road, but until now we haven’t seen any sign of it, thank goodness for this governor, ”he said.
The group praised the efforts of the Iseyin Ayeyin, Oba Dr. Abdganiy Salaudeen Adekunle Oloogunebi, Ajinese I, to prevent insecurity in the community and its surroundings.
He pledged loyalty to the monarch and urged concerted action to bring the ancient city to the desired height.
