NASHIK: Nashik police have arrested a 26-year-old burglar charged with alleged theft from an ancient temple in the city’s Panchavati district.
The burglar had stolen Rs 25,000 from the donation box.
Panchavati Police said that around 2am on June 24, the burglar identified as Rudesh Goswami, a resident of Gangaghat, carried out the burglary from the temple.
“Soon after the theft was noticed, the trustee of the temple filed a complaint with the Panchavati police station against an unidentified burglar, stating that the burglar had entered the temple in Shani Chowk area of Panchavati by smashing its metal window,” police said.
Later, the burglar broke the lock of the donation box and stole Rs 25,000 cash inside.
After the complaint was lodged with the Panchavati Police, the officials and staff of the Detection Directorate (DB) visited the temple, investigated the location, checked the footage from the surveillance cameras along the road in front the temple and after taking information from the people. around, the police arrested Goswami.
The police also recovered Rs 22,525 from the burglar.
Panchavati Police are investigating the case.
