KUALA LUMPUR: The country’s new sepak takraw entity, the Malaysian Sepaktakraw Confederation (MSC) is ready to accept affiliates from its “big brother” – the Malaysian Sepaktakraw Association (PSM), MSC Protem Committee Chairman Datuk Seri Khairudin says Is Abd Samad.
He said the MSC did not impose any conditions on state associations interested in joining.
“We have no intention of competing with any association, if we are accepted by the international federation that will be the starting point for Malaysian sepak takraw to continue to progress,” he told Bernama today. .
Kharudin, who is also the president of the Putrajaya Federal Territory Sepaktakraw Association, said they are still working to ensure that the MSC is recognized internationally.
He said that after the establishment of the MSC on February 10, all the preliminary processes for the establishment of the association are now being actively carried out before the application for membership of the Asian Sepak Takraw Federation (ASTAF) is submitted.
“I leave it to international bodies to decide which parent body will represent Malaysia later,” he said.
PSM was withdrawn as an affiliate member of ASTAF in May last year.
The dismissal was due to the fact that PSM had been found guilty following the actions of its then president, Datuk Seri Ahmad Ismail, in his capacity as vice-president of ASTAF, for having sent letters to the Olympic Council Asia (OCA) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
ASTAF saw the action as a clear violation of the agreement to abide by all purposes and constitution of the International Sepak Takraw Federation (ISTAF) and ASTAF as agreed on March 14, 2008.
Sports Commissioner (PJS) Ibrahim Mohd Yusof recently hinted that only the formation of a new entity would be able to save Malaysian sepak takraw at international level after ASTAF declared its position to refuse to accept PSM as an affiliate member.
Further commenting, Khairudin said that the MSC will hold its inaugural general meeting this Saturday.
“At this assembly, we will proceed with the election or appoint a valid parents’ committee after receiving the registration certificate,” he said.
There are currently six affiliate members within the MSC, namely Selangor Sepak Takraw Association; Putrajaya Federal Territory Sepak Takraw Association; Sarawak Sepak Takraw Association; Perlis Sepak Takraw Association; Kedah Sepak Takraw Association; and the Sepak Takraw Association of the Federal Territory of Labuan. – Bernama
