Philippine Federation reaches out to compatriots in need

Bayanihan Qatar – a federation of more than 20 Filipino community organizations – recently organized an outreach program for the benefit of overseas Filipino workers housed at the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO).

A total of 14 forum member organizations came together for the event which saw the distribution of groceries, food and personal hygiene items to the beneficiaries, all of whom were women.

“We conduct this outreach program at least once every quarter, not only in the POLO reception center, but also in the labor camps and the Filipino communities,” said Bayanihan Qatar President’s Engineer Jerry Ronquillo, in a statement.
Participating organizations were TGBI TO, GSSI, FESTA Qatar, TSDQ, FFQ, Buklod, TKSQ, GP OFW, Advocates (OFWAI), GRII, Filipino Institute (FI), BDWQ, AGWI and NIKTIK.
Ronquillo thanked the participating organizations under the umbrella of Bayanihan Qatar for their support and cooperation in various programs of the federation. Ronquillo also applauded the leaders and committees of the federation for their tireless support and commitment.
Engineer Caesar Ternida, Founding President and Advisor to Filipino Expatriate Sepak Takraw (Festa) Qatar – also a member organization of Bayanihan Qatar, said that in addition to enjoying Sepak Takraw – the national sport of the Philippines, his forum understood the importance of helping those in need. .
“As we hear of Filipino colleagues in need and facing issues related to their work, we believe that reaching out to them and seeing them smile again is truly rewarding and fulfilling a sense of responsibility. Our organization has been leading similar outreach programs in the past for the benefit of distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) and we will continue this effort and partnership with other organizations to fulfill this commitment,” he said.
Ternida also expressed his gratitude on behalf of the officers and members of Festa Qatar to the Bayanihan Qatar federation for constantly allowing them to become a partner in reaching out to the distressed OFWs in the country.
“Bayanihan” or civic unity and cooperation is among the virtues of Filipinos practiced since ancient times, commonly demonstrated by people helping a neighbor move a hut or light shelter.
