Philippines win two bronze medals in Arafura Games sepak takraw


DARWIN, Australia – The Philippines won two sepak takraw bronzes on Thursday at the 2019 Arafura Games at the Darwin Convention Center.

The men’s doubles team of Dominic James Sagosoy, Aljon Yipon and Jundy Puton took the victory over India, while the women’s doubles team of Allyssa Bandoy, Josefina Maat and Aisa Sabellita defeated Sabah, Malaysia, both in two sets to win the bronzes.

The Philippines were relegated to the bronze medal game after losing their semifinal games to University Putra Malaysia and Indonesia respectively.


Meanwhile, Jhon Christian Noces defeated Francis Mark Flordeliza of the Northern Territory by split decision to advance to the semifinals of the men’s boxing welterweight category, securing him at least one bronze medal.

Shera Mae Jacinto, the lone boxer in the delegation, lost by split decision to April Franks of Victoria in the women’s flyweight quarterfinal.

The men’s basketball team beat Johor, Malaysia, 86-64, to sweep the preliminaries.

Hachaliah Gilbuena and Johnrel Amora beat Australia 10, 21-12, 21-13 to clinch a berth in the round of 16 of the men’s beach volleyball tournament.
