SUBIC – The Philippines team were content to win bronze medals as Myanmar and Indonesia staged a sepak takraw men’s doubles gold medal duel on Thursday at the Subic Gymnasium.
While defending champions Thailand skipped the Games, Myanmar and Indonesia wereted no effort to advance to the final. They will see the horns in the fight for the gold medal which will take place on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
Myanmar advanced after frustrating the Philippines in front of their home crowd, 2-1, while Indonesia won a convincing victory over Vietnam, 2-0.
Embarrassed by the roaring home crowd, Myanmar actually got off to a bad start with a stunning 15-21, 17-21 loss in the first reg.
But the Burmese regained ground in the following frames, gaining the upper hand over the Filipinos with a huge 21-16, 21-13 victory in the second and an even categorical triumph 21-13, 21-12 in the last regu.
After beating a twinkill in the men’s and women’s hoop event in the opener, the Philippines bled for the bronze this time with Vietnam.
The hosts will look to bounce back in the next men’s team regatta event against Malaysia, while Myanmar and Indonesia merge at the start of the tag team event on Thursday.
