The national sepak takraw team settled for bronze in the men’s regular competition at the 31st Southeast Asian Games after losing to Malaysia in straight sets on Tuesday (May 17) in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Jason Huerte, Ronsited Gabayeron, Mark Joseph Gonzales, Janjan Bobier and Rhey Jhey Ortuoste won all three group stage matches to reach the semi-finals before falling short against the Malaysians.
Thailand then beat Malaysia, also in straight sets, for their second consecutive gold medal in the event held at Hoang Mai Gymnasium.
Huerte, Gabayeron, Gonzales, Bobier and Ortuoste secured a medal after beating Loos in straight sets and needed a decisive third set to beat Indonesia on Monday.
They started Tuesday with a straight-sets win over Myanmar.
The Philippines resume play on Wednesday against Laos and Myanmar in the men’s doubles category.
