Sepak Takraw wins two gold medals to launch SEAG campaign


SUBIC, Zambales – The Filipino sepak takraw team joined in the fun, winning two gold medals on the hoop at the 30th Southeast Asian Games on Sunday at the Subic Gymnasium here.

The sepak team helped the Philippines take their tally to 18 gold medals – sports dance with eight, arnis with four, triathlon and sepak takraw with two gold each and wushu and men’s artistic gymnastics with one each.

The women’s team, led by coach Deseree Autor alongside Josefina Maat, Sara Jean Kalalo, Mary Ann Lopez, Jean Marie Sucalit and Abigail Sinugbohan, scored 670 points to escape Indonesia (660).


Earlier, the men’s team also scored 670 points against Laos (430), that was enough cushion for the Philippine team as Cambodia recorded 450 points, pulling Laos away from the medal race of money.

The nationals will look to keep the momentum going when the men’s team of Janjan Bobier, Metodio Sueco, Emmanuel Escote, John Jeffrey Morcellos and Christian George Encabo see the action in the centerpiece of the event, the team double and the regularity by team from Monday.
