Shreveport burglary call leads to police shootout


A suspect is treated for injuries after a shootout with Shreveport police.

A call arrived at Shreveport Police at around 11 p.m. last night (12/21/21) regarding an ongoing burglary at a residence in the Westwood Park area. Police arrived at the scene and an altercation resulted in the suspect being shot.

After a tense standoff, the police were able to remove the suspect from the house. The suspect suffered from a gunshot wound to his leg, as well as a nasty bite from a K-9 officer. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment before he could be taken to jail.

Gary Sims, 59, has been charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder, home invasion and convicted of possession of a firearm.

No officer was injured in the incident.
