US Mint Selects Stack’s Bowers to Auction 35th Anniversary American Eagles

Launched in 1986, the American Eagle Bullion Coin series has become one of the most popular and successful modern issues produced by any mint in the world. Prized by both bullion investors and numismatic collectors, the America Eagle Series is considered the flagship of the United States Mint and offers a tribute to the greatest American coin designs of the 20th century.

To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the series, new reverse models for the silver and gold eagles were released in April 2021, and the transition between the classic models and the new models was commemorated in a striking ceremony. at the West Point Mint. During this ceremony, then Mint Director David Ryder personally operated the presses to produce the last 500 coins of each of the classic 1 oz gold and silver coins and the first 500 coins of each of the new 1 oz gold and silver coins.

These American Eagle at Dusk and at Dawn coins will be offered exclusively by Stack’s Bowers Galleries on September 1, 2022 as part of their Summer 2022 Global Auction. These will primarily be offered in special four-piece sets each containing classic coins 1 oz gold and silver eagle coins and one each of the new 1 oz gold and silver coins.

The first minted coins of the new models will be paired with the last minted coins of the classic model and this pairing format will be maintained with all sets. Each of these four-coin sets will also come with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity issued by the United States Mint.

Similar two-piece sets will be offered with each of the classic and new models in gold or silver. These two-piece sets retain the same pairwise minting order as the four-piece sets and are ideal for collectors who focus solely on the American Gold Eagle or American Silver Eagle series.

Selected coins of particular significance will be offered individually, including the very first and last minted coins of each type.

Each piece will also be graded and encapsulated by major NGC and PCGS grading services with custom labels to recognize their historical significance.

This partnership represents the first time ever that the United States Mint has selected a third-party auctioneer to present a special edition coin to collectors, and Stack’s Bowers Galleries is honored to have been chosen for this inaugural offering. Only once before has the Mint entered into a similar deal in its entire history – the July 2002 sale.
