Lots of roads, recreation sites now closed; here is what you need to know
It is that time of year when access to roads and recreation sites in the Eastern Sierra changes overnight or within the hour, depending on the weather. Here are the latest updates on all roads and recreation sites in Inyo National Forest Campgrounds, updated as of October 28. Remember, while some of the closures in place may be temporary, some will likely be the winter shutdown for the season, so keep an eye out for sources like Caltrans to check for changes.
Also, keep in mind that the roads maintained by Inyo County have switched to winter operations. This means that if a road is open it is not maintained (i.e. cleared of snow) and travel is at your own risk. Be prepared for snow and ice.
Finally, âwinter operationsâ campgrounds are open campgrounds at no cost, but also without campground services or hosts. Campers must bring their own water and pack their own garbage. See below to see which campgrounds are considered winter operations campgrounds.
